Richards Terrace Planning Application

Following concerns raised by local residents, Nigel has submitted the following objection to the application to convert No's 1, 3 and 5 Richards Terrace into 26 flats. The objection is as follows:

Planning Application No 04/01193/C

Following discussions with local residents, I wish to register my objection to the above application for the following reasons:

1. I consider the proposals to replace effectively 3 houses with 26 flats to be a gross overdevelopment of the site.
2. Replacing the existing 3 terraced houses with a three storey development of 26 flats is totally out of character to the remainder of Richards Terrace.
3. The proposals do not, in my opinion, provide enough parking spaces for the 26 flats. Clearly this will put even more pressure on the limited parking places in Richards Terrace itself.
4. The proposed development will also put even more pressure on an already congested junction (the junction of Broadway and Richards Terrace).
5. Richards Terrace is one of the main routes used by children on their way to Stacey Primary School and I would oppose any development that would increase traffic on their route to school.

Many thanks

Cllr Nigel Howells

Now that "No Parking" zig-zags have been painted outside the gates of Stacey Primary School, the spaces can now be utilised by school staff who have been experiencing increased parking problems near to the school.

Builders' Compound - Adamsdown School Playing Fields

Following concerns raised by local residents, Nigel has objected to the planning application regarding the Builders' Compound on part of the playing fields of Adamsdown Primary School. The objection is as follows:

Planning Application No 04/1190C
Land at Adamsdown Primary School Playing Fields

Please can you note my objection to the above planning application.

In an earlier application that was granted in 2003, it was stipulated that the compound would be only situated at this site for a period of a year. It was only following enquiries made by Cllr John Dixon regarding the expiry of that application that this application was made to extend this period.

I object for the following reasons.

1. Local residents have already suffered enough disruption to their quality of life and now is the time to restore the site to its former use - that of a school playing field.
2. Whilst conditions regarding the time of use of the compound were stipulated in the conditions to the previous application, it is clear that these are not being adhered to.
3. Following on from point 3, I believe that the siting of this compound, so close to one of the main entrances to Adamsdown Primary School, poses a serious risk to the safety of both children and parents at peak times.
4. Metal Street is already heavily congested due to commuter parking. This compound, and the resulting increase in traffic that it brings, only makes the situation worse.

Cllr Nigel Howells
