Cardiff Museum: Have your say!

Plans for a new museum for Cardiff are well underway, and the team behind the project
is now inviting members of the public to see the plans and have their say.

An open day will take place at Cardiff’s Old Library, between 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday
January 8, where Cardiff Council’s Museum Project team and designers, Redman
Design Associates, will be on hand to talk about progress on the project and make a
note of any questions and comments made. There will also be a chance to see artists’
impressions of the galleries and find out how to contribute to the museum.

Councillor Nigel Howells, Cardiff Council’s Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and
Culture, says this is a significant day in the development of the museum.
“The museum will be a great way for visitors to orientate themselves with the city but
there is considerable local interest as well. We’ve always said that the museum is as
much for the people of Cardiff as about them, so it’s very important that they have a
chance to have their say during these early stages and help direct the first phase of
development.
“We’ve already undertaken a great deal of consultation, but we now have some more
definite plans and images to share, so I really hope people will take this opportunity to
call in and tell us what they think.
“It’s also going to be helpful to for us to find out what stories and objects are out there,
that we might be able to use in the museum.”

Anyone who can’t attend on the day can find out more about the museum development
online, at www.cardiffmuseum.com. Comments can be sent by email to
museum@cardiff.gov.uk, by letter to Cardiff Museum Project, The Old Library, Cardiff,
CF10 1BH, or by phoning 029 2087 3196.

The Cardiff Museum Project is managed by Cardiff Council’s Tourism, Marketing &
Development Group, part of the Policy & Economic Development Service. The first
phase of the museum is scheduled to open in 2010.
